Playground Frogs

Waterlow Park
Highgate, London, UK

According to Friends of Waterlow Park:  "Waterlow Park is a 26-acre park on a steep hillside in Highgate, North London, with spectacular views over the city. The land was the gift of Sir Sydney Waterlow as a 'garden for the gardenless' and the park opened in 1891." The park is adjacent to Highgate Cemetery.

This frog is in one of the playgrounds.

Yankton Mural

Yankton Mural
Yankton, SD

Originally home to the Yankton Sioux, the site of present-day Yankton was the territorial capital of the Dakotas from 1861 to 1883, when it was moved to Bismarck, ND.  This mural was painted in 2009. There is a frog watching the steamboat.

Playground Frogs

 Norfolk, NE

The name of the town is pronounced "Norfork" by residents (and the Google Map Witch).  We found these frogs at the Lions Club parade.  The frog's friends were pretty interesting, too: an elephant with a bird tail and a beaver with the tail of a horse.

Vermillion Sculpture Walk

Vermillion, SD

The Vermillion outpost of SculptureWalk has new installations this week, including this one, entitled "Zodiac Totem" by Pokey Park of Arizona.  As described by the artist:

"Completed in 2008- Bronze- All the individual pieces have been cast as separate sculptures. The animals represent the 12 zodiac years found in the Chinese and Japanese calenders, though I have replaced some with familiar Southwestern animals: the wolf has replaced the dog, the javalina has replaced the pig, the puma has replaced the tiger. For the base, I began with carp swirling under a lilly pad that has a frog sitting on top. Pisces and Aquarius, symbolizing water as necessary for all life, supports the 12 animal years stacked on top. This totem can be assembled with all the animals or only a selected few."

Sculpture Walk Sioux Falls

Sioux Falls, SD

Another entry from the Sioux Falls Sculpture Walk, this one entitled "In the Mystic Forest" by Bobbie Carlyle of Colorado.  The frog is around the base of the sculpture, as seen in the second picture.

NYC Frog Project on the Road

Oceanario de Lisboa
Lisbon, Portugal

The Oceanrio de Lisboa claims to be the best aquarium in Europe, and it just might be.  It's certainly the best I've been to.  In addition to being home to the best fish ever . . .

. . . it also has quite a nice display of frogs.

Snowzilla 2016

79th Street Playground
Bay Ridge, Brooklyn

I've posted pictures of these frogs before, both on this blog and on my Tumblr blog of NYC playground frogs. But this time, it's different.  This time, Snowzilla has been here.  The official total at JFK airport was 30.5 inches, and Central Park logged 26.8, just 1/10 of an inch shy of the record, which was set in 1869.

Frogs of the Times

Good New on the Fungus Front

According to the article:  "After a six-year effort, researchers on the Spanish island of Majorca have rid several groups of Maorcan midwife toads of the pathogen Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis--better known as chytrid fungus, or B.d.  It's the first time the disease, which is devastating amphibians worldwide, has been eradicated in a wild population."

Christmas Frogs

Bloomingdale's
59th Street, Manhattan

The holiday windows in NYC are something to see.  With seven million of your closest friends.  This years most over-the-top display was Sak's Fifth Avenue, where the light show pretty much brought Fifth Avenue to a stop.  In one little corner of the Bloomingdale's display, though, there was this guy:

NYC Frog Project on the Road

New Jersey State Fair
Sussex Co. Fairgrounds, NJ

I had some time to kill at the NJ State Fair while my family and friends were risking their lives on the ferris wheel, so I took some pictures of cheap stuffed frogs in their natural habitat.
